Tour itinerary
01
Gyumri
Gyumri is known for black and red tuff buildings, craft traditions and a lively cultural scene. The historic Kumayri district offers old balconies, decorative stonework and city squares. Museum choices are based on guests’ interests and agreed separately. Walk through central Gyumri to discover its stone buildings and local atmosphere. Museum visits can be arranged separately.
In the old town, look at the details of the tuff-built houses, their doors and balconies. Gyumri’s identity is closely tied to crafts, the arts and local humour. Museums and workshops can be added by prior arrangement rather than being automatic parts of the town walk.
02
Black Fortress
Black Fortress is a landmark of Gyumri’s defensive history, built from dark volcanic stone. Its circular form and hilltop position make it recognisable. Interior access or event attendance depends on availability and separate arrangements. Stop at Gyumri’s Black Fortress to view its exterior and the city scenery. Interior access depends on opening arrangements and separately agreed conditions.
The circular dark-stone structure stands out in Gyumri’s cityscape. An exterior visit reveals the mass of the walls and the fortress’s relationship to the town. Interior tours or events require a separately confirmed arrangement.
03
Harichavank Monastery
Harichavank occupies a rocky height in Shirak with open views. The complex brings together churches from different periods, an entrance hall and carved façades. A visit combines monastic architecture with the surrounding rural landscape. Visit Harichavank Monastery and explore its grounds. This stop introduces another of Shirak’s architectural landmarks.
Harichavank is also associated with medieval learning and manuscript culture. The different building forms and façade decorations invite comparison across the complex. A courtyard walk combines architectural details with the open landscapes of Shirak.
